Around China

The Embassy of Ireland will provide as much consular assistance to you as possible no matter where you are in China. Practicalities dictate that much of this assistance will be provided over the phone. Irish citizens living in Taiwan should contact the Embassy in Beijing to clarify their situation.

Mongolia

Mongolia The Embassy is able to provide limited range of consular services to Irish citizens in Mongolia. For all emergency consular matters (including lost/stolen passports) Irish citizens should initially contact the British Embassy in Ulan Bator

What The Embassy can do for you:

Passport applications/renewals

Information on citizenship (Post Nuptial Citizenship, Foreign Birth Register)

Issue Freedom to Marry certificates (Certificat de Cotume)

Assistance to distressed citizens/ citizens in trouble

Assistance during general emergencies

Witnessing of documents

What the Embassy cannot do for you:

We cannot provide certain types of consular assistance to Irish citizens who have dual citizenship and who are residing or visiting in the country of their second citizenship.

We cannot provide any information on visas for China or obtain these on your behalf. For information on visas for Ireland, please check our visa information section . For information on visas for China contact your nearest Chinese Embassy, or Public Security Bureau office if you are already in China.

We cannot issue a Certificat de Coutume (Freedom to Marry) for Irish citizens who are not resident in China. Irish citizens who are based in Ireland and who have come to China to get married must apply for their Freedom to Marry certificate from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin.

We cannot pay legal fees, administrative fees or settle any accounts on your behalf.

We cannot get you out of detention or jail or obtain preferential treatment for you while in jail. We cannot provide legal advice to you.

We cannot investigate crimes or allegations of malpractice.

We cannot hold funds or valuables for safekeeping at the Embassy.
