The Consulate General in Shanghai serves Irish citizens and Irish economic interests in Shanghai and its four surrounding provinces (Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Zhejiang and Anhui).It was established in 2000 to promote Irish interests in Shanghai.The decision to open the Consulate was taken by the Government of Ireland as part of its strategy to deepen relations with the People’s Republic of China.

Enterprise Ireland, the Irish Government’s trade and technology agency is located in the Commercial Section of the Consulate. Its purpose is to assist Irish companies to achieve strong positions in global markets, and specifically to increase their export sales in trading with the People’s Republic of China.

Ireland’s inward investment promotion agency, IDA Ireland (Industrial Development Agency) is responsible for the attraction and development of foreign investment in Ireland. Its office in China is based in Shanghai where it is located in the Economic Section of the Consulate. This office is responsible for promoting investment from China to Ireland. IDA's focus is to attract foreign investment that is of high value, requiring high skill levels and a sophisticated business environment. More information can be found at www.idaireland.com

Bord Bia, Irish Food Board have had a permanent presence in Shanghai since September 2008. The Bord Bia office in Shanghai assists Irish food and drink companies build trading relationships with customers throughout China.

Tourism Ireland, the all-Ireland tourism agency has a representation in Shanghai, to develop the tourist market between the People’s Republic of China and Ireland.

The Irish community now numbers almost 500 in Shanghai, working in a variety of industries. The Consulate organises an Irish community evening on a monthly basis and works closely with the Irish community business, sporting and social associations. The consular services of the Consulate are available to all Irish citizens residing in the Consular area. You are strongly encouraged to register with the Consulate.
