Message from Ambassador
Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Ireland in Beijing.
There is a warm and close friendship between Ireland and China, which encompasses engagement across a range of areas – including political relations, trade and investment, food and agriculture , tourism, culture and education.
Together with our Consulate General in Shanghai, our newly-established Consulate General in Hong Kong - and alongside the other members of “Team Ireland” in China - the Embassy works to support the further deepening and strengthening of that friendship.
Recent years have seen a flourishing of the engagement between Ireland and China, including at the highest political level. These have been matched by strong and growing contacts between the Irish and Chinese peoples, especially when it comes to our young people.
Increasing numbers of Chinese students are choosing to study in Ireland, recognising our long tradition in education excellence, as well as the friendly, safe and English-speaking environment.
We have also been delighted to welcome increasing numbers of Chinese tourists to our shores. Irish people take pride in our hospitality. It is at once both traditional and modern. The distinctive Irish scenery and culture – including our world-renowned music and dance – make a journey to Ireland both a fascinating and very enjoyable experience.
Bilateral trade and investment links are also growing and diversifying. Many Irish companies export to, and have operations in, China, while Ireland’s innovative, pro-enterprise environment is encouraging Chinese companies to invest in Ireland. Ireland is the only English-speaking country in the Eurozone.
Having recently taken up my appointment in Beijing I will be working hard – alongside my colleagues at the Embassy and the other members of “Team Ireland” - to advance the further development of all these links for the mutual benefit of both countries.
For Irish citizens resident or travelling in China or Mongolia, the Embassy is available in the event that you may need consular advice or assistance. The same applies in respect of Chinese and other citizens who may be seeking a visa to travel to Ireland. Information on the services provided is available on the site.
Let me extend best wishes to each and every visitor to this website.
